2010 World Champions - Scholastic Open Class

The West Johnston Winterguard is an extra-curricular activity composed of olorguard members from marching band and interested students selected through auditions. There are two guard units at West, the Varsity (World Guard) and Junior Varsity (A Guard) Winterguard.The Winterguard performs at various venues and participates in national competitions and selected community activities.

In 2010, The West Johnston Open Winterguard placed first in the Winter Guard International (WGI) Open Class World Championship in Dayton, Ohio and was promoted to World Class. The West Johnston Winterguard was a silver medalist in Class A at WGI World Champtionships in 2004.

The Winterguard has an outstanding reputation as evidenced by its top place finishes at various national and state competitions. Winterguard season is held January through April. They compete in Atlantic Indoor Association (AIA) and Winterguard International (WGI) sanctioned events.
