The West Johnston
High School
band program was established
in the Fall of 2002 with the
opening of West Johnston
High School.
The West
Johnston High School band program is comprised of various
components that perform and compete at the local, state and
national levels. This program offers students a comprehensive
educational experience through music, performance, life lessons
and opportunities that extend beyond a traditional classroom.
Under
the guidance of Directors
Mr. M. Lance Britt and
Mr. David S. Duffy, the West Johnston Band Program has
already influenced hundreds of high school students.
Our students have learned that
with hard work and dedication anything is possible. Rewards for
this dedication include travel and performance throughout our
nation, representing Johnston County and the State of North
Carolina.

Since the Fall of 2002, the band
program has had several top place finishes at Bands of America
and WGI events, and at state and local competitions. In 2005,
the band was chosen to be North Carolina's only representative
to the 55th Presidential Inaugural
Parade.
The
band program is part of the Fine Arts curriculum at West
Johnston High School and consists of the Marching Band, Color
Guard, Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and Concert Band that
compete at National, Regional and local competitions. The band
program also provides students the opportunity to learn and
compete through many extra-curricular activities including two
Winterguard units, Indoor Percussion and Jazz Band.
Students involved
with the West Johnston High School band program have given back
to their community through many performances at various
community events.
